The MIKE 2.0 Methodology and Framework: Open Source Data Management

In an information economy, business leaders should change their view of information from seeing it as a by-product of their business, to thinking of it as being the business. Information exists throughout every organisation and it is one of its greatest assets. Information pervades every aspect of an organisation’s functions, including stakeholder reporting, marketing, product development, resource allocation and customer-relations management. Enterprise information management (EIM) is as important to the whole enterprise as managing financial information. The ways information is managed vary, but having a consistent terminology, work breakdown structure and management techniques enable practitioners from disparate backgrounds to analyse information and extract value from it. MIKE2.0 (Method for and Integrated Knowledge Environment), is an open-source methodology for Enterprise Information Management. It assists the information management profession by bringing together a body of knowledge and a standardised approach to allow professionals to work together more effectively. The scope of MIKE2.0 includes the strategy, development and governance of both structured and unstructured information. MIKE2.0 is available to every organisation, whether in business or government. The content is available using a creative commons licensing model, which means that anything can be reused from the site in any way as long as its use is attributed. The MIKE2.0 Methodology is part of the overall Open Methodology Framework. To find out more, go to www.openmethodology.org. This presentation will help you understand what MIKE2.0 is, see it live and appreciate how to use it. Find out how you can become an active part of the MIKE2.0 community. See how MIKE2.0 has been used on some real-life projects. Gain insight into where you can start to apply it, whether you are an IM practitioner or (like all of us) needing to deal effectively with the information environment within our own organisation.
